Some Acid Reflux Medicine

These are advised if the symptoms of acid reflux persist. Some are over the counter drugs that one can take to help the stomach empty the gas. One should consult a doctor first before starting on any medication or when changing the drugs.

For mild acid reflux medicine one can use antacids. These include Maalox, rolaid and riopan. These are made from magnesium, aluminum and calcium. Many other products in the market use these three ingredients. The antacids also have there side effects too. Magnesium can cause diarrhea while aluminum may cause constipation. These two together balance the effects. Please let yuor doctor know if yuo are on other medications too. Magnesium and aluminum are very strong base or alkaline products. They therefore neutralize the acid in the stomach.

Other products used are foaming agents that cover the stomach with foam to avoid a reflux. There are also drugs that help strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter. Other products help the stomach to clear its contents faster. Other drugs help reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach. For children medication should be given strictly with a doctor’s prescription. Acid reflux in most cases does not require medication. A modification of ones lifestyle in most cases stops the symptoms. In chronic cases which are rare, medication does not help. In these cases one may need surgery. One should not jump to this conclusion without exhausting all the other options they have. This though is a great alternative to a lifetime of discomfort and drugs.
